GOD ALWAYS FULFILS HIS PROMISES.
One of God’s greatest promises to Abraham was the birth of a son through Sarah. Although Abraham was one hundred years old and Sarah was ninety, when God declared that they would have a son named Isaac, meaning “laughter.” Humanly speaking, it was impossible, but to God nothing is impossible (Luke 1:37).
Isaac was not merely Abraham’s son; he was the covenant son, chosen by God through whom the Abrahamic covenant would continue.
GOD’S PROMISE OF THE COVENANT SON
God repeatedly confirmed His promise:
- In Genesis 17:19 – God promised that Sarah would bear Isaac and that His everlasting covenant would be established with him.
- Genesis 18:10, 14 – God assured Abraham and Sarah that within a year they would have a son, asking, “Is anything too hard for the LORD?”.
- Genesis 21:1 – 3 – God fulfilled His word exactly as He had promised, and Isaac was born at the appointed time.
God’s timing is always perfect, and His promises never fail.
ISAAC POINTS TO JESUS CHRIST
Isaac’s birth foreshadowed the coming of Jesus Christ.
- Isaac was the promised son; Jesus is the promised Messiah (Isaiah 9:6).
- Isaac’s birth was miraculous because of his parents’ old age; Jesus’ birth was miraculous through the virgin Mary (Matthew 1:18 – 23).
- Isaac was deeply loved by his father (Genesis 22:2); Jesus is God’s beloved Son (Matthew 3:17).
- Isaac carried the wood for his sacrifice (Genesis 22:6); Jesus carried His cross to ….. (John 19:17).
- Isaac was spared; Jesus willingly gave His life as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of the world (John 1:29).
Isaac reminds us that God’s plan of redemption reaches its fulfilment in Jesus Christ.
LESSONS FOR TODAY
- God’s promises are certain, regardless of human limitations (Numbers 23:19).
- God works according to His perfect timing (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
- Faith waits patiently for God’s fulfilment (Hebrews 6:12).
- Jesus Christ is the fulfilment of every covenant promise (2 Corinthians 1:20).
AN INVITATION:
Just as Isaac was the promised son of the covenant, Jesus Christ is God’s promised Saviour for the world. Through Him, we receive forgiveness of sins, eternal life, and a place in God’s everlasting family.
Will you trust God’s promised Son today? Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, repent of your sins, and receive His gift of eternal life.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, we thank You for keeping Your promise to Abraham by giving him Isaac, the covenant son. Thank You even more for sending Jesus Christ, Your beloved Son, to save us from our sins. We place our faith in Him today. Help us to trust Your promises and walk in faithful obedience all the days of our lives, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
